immigrant and refugee children in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by donating backpacks, uniforms, and school supplies to families to help cut down on costs of purchasing school supplies. Many of these families came from refugee camps because of war and conflict in their home countries, leaving them desperately in need of help, which is where we step in. Some of the children and parents are so grateful for the help that we provide that we see tears of joy running down their faces because of the love and care that we extend to them.
As Christians, everything we do is in the name of Jesus Christ. Loving God and loving our neighbor are the two greatest commandments that were given to us, and the Bible is very clear on our responsibility to serve those in need. Matthew 25:34-35 says: “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” The way to serve God is to serve our neighbors, and that’s what POBLO is actively doing among immigrant and refugee populations. Our love for God is inseparable from our love for our neighbors and is the key motivator for serving, caring for, and witnessing to those around us.
