Every year Mount Calvary in Milwaukee organizes an Easter outreach for kids in the community and both children and parents are invited to attend. Since POBLO International is a mission partner with Mount Calvary, we not only expose children and parents from the American community to Christian faith, but we also use this opportunity to invite Muslim kids so that they can hear the real story of Jesus and His mission to die for our sins and bring us salvation. The order of events starts with the Easter bunny photo op, crafts and decorations, Easter games in the gym, and finally, the telling of the Easter story. Every year since POBLO began to partner with Mount Calvary, I have been blessed with the privilege of telling the Easter story, including sharing it with the Muslims children who attend the event. For most of the kids, Easter is associated with the Easter bunny and eggs and candy to go with it. But the real story is what I share with them—how God gave His one and only son Jesus Christ to come down from heaven and die for our sins. Through His passion, His crucifixion, burial, resurrection, and then His ascension, all who believe and receive Him as their personal Savior by faith, receive the blessings He came to bring. Some of the kids are amazed to learn the true story of Easter, and that the bunny and eggs are a lot of fun, but that it’s not really what the day is about. The catch is to make the program fun for the kids while, at the same time, sharing the Gospel with them. And once I share the story with them, they start asking very interesting questions pertaining to Easter, God, heaven, and what Jesus did to earn it for them. We still give the kids candy and an opportunity for the photo op with the Easter bunny. But, after all is said and done, Muslim kids, and all the children in attendance, go home having heard the real story of Easter, the story of Jesus and His love.
