It has been 6 months since the sewing unit at Brookfield Lutheran Church was launched. We have made major progress expanding the unit and bringing more women through the door! Each month, 2-3 new students have enrolled in sewing classes, bringing the average weekly attendance to 12 per class. Equally exciting is the number of amazing volunteers who have dedicated themselves to expanding the unit and teaching sewing classes. We currently have sewing classes twice a week. The students will be starting a new sewing project soon in which they will be making dresses from scratch. In order to teach the students more about the fabric and materials used for sewing, the volunteers recently led a field trip to the local Jo-Ann Fabric store. They looked at dress patterns and different types and colors of fabric to get an idea of what they would like to use for their project. The students had a wonderful time getting out of the classroom and learning more about sewing!
