Through the ministry of POBLO International, and the determined leadership of Rev. Robert Mrosko, Brookfield Lutheran Church (BLC) in Brookfield, WI is being transformed for missions. It’s not the transformation you might have thought—learning to be missional. No, they’ve been that way for a long time—supporting missionaries, going on overseas mission trips. Their present transformation is even more radical. Through a patient, painstaking, and an often “We don’t really know how this is going to work, but let’s try it” approach, the church now sees nearly 40 Indians from their “front yard” mission field come through the doors of the church weekly. Pastor Rob and the leadership team had the passion. Rob says, “We wanted to reach the Indian IT community living right around us—there are several thousand people.” “And we had BLC members who worked with these IT workers. And POBLO missionaries, Praveen and Priya Manual, worked to bring these workers, their wives and their children to us. So, it was our role to learn how to welcome them, receive them, and for the sake of their salvation, pour ourselves into them.” For the past 3 years, Pastor Mrosko has gotten heavily involved—visiting the homes of BLC’s new friends, planning special events to relate to the Indian community, and teaching seekers through adult information classes. The church as a whole, has learned to welcome these families who come to Bible study, worship, VBS, Sunday school, and who even volunteer. The Indian community in Brookfield truly feels welcome at BLC! Those who were born Hindu are now coming to express their faith in the Savior, Jesus Christ. And God’s church is being transformed by the mission which was but a stone’s throw away.
