I picked him up the next morning, and we went to the second service at Redeemer Lutheran Church. I translated the service for him, since he is still learning English. This was his first time being in a church. He asked me many questions during the service, curious about what was happening and what it all meant. I explained things to him as simply as I could. After the service, I gave him a tour of the sanctuary and church building. We met with Pastor Koglin, who spent time talking with us about the church and Christianity. When we were finished with the tour, we went to lunch and chatted for another two hours. He opened up about his life and shared many stories with me.
A week later, I invited him to join me for lunch at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Eyota. We dined with Pastor Vollrath and his family, who had invited my family to lunch. Two other members of the church joined us as well. They made Middle Eastern food for us, which was a special treat. This was a great opportunity for my new friend to meet other Christians and feel welcomed in his new community. Pastor Koglin and I are planning to visit him after he returns from a three week trip, and I hope that we will be able to continue building our friendship and sharing the love of Jesus with him.
