Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, in conjunction with POBLO International, recently organized an event called Kids World. This event was geared towards teaching children about the Gospel through activities that educate and instill in them Christ-centered concepts. I invited many children from the community. Some of them were Christian, some of them Muslim, and some still trying to decide what they believe. This made for a very interesting and exciting group, and a great opportunity to share Jesus with them.
The event was a huge success! There were many fun activities for the children to participate in, such as board games, coloring, devotional time, and sports, as well as lots of snacks and drinks. The volunteers from Home 4 the Heart and Mt. Calvary did a great job loving on the kids and helping to facilitate a healthy, educational, and fun environment for them. A total of 24 children attended. The adults who accompanied the children were also exposed to the Gospel message and received invitations to the Easter services at Mt. Calvary.
Following the event, the children from one of the Muslim families shared with their parents what they had gained from the event and mentioned what they had learned about Christ. The family’s Muslim neighbors began to raise an issue with their Muslim children participating in Christian activities and insisted that being involved in a Christian program is “Haram,” the Arabic word for forbidden. Because I heard about the pressure they were receiving from their neighbors, I asked the family if I could come over to their house and explain the Gospel to them. They agreed, so I had the opportunity to share who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for humanity to give us salvation and eternal life through His death and resurrection.
After I shared this with them, they admitted to me that they had not heard the Gospel message before and that they thought it was sad that their Muslim neighbors had a negative opinion of Christianity and Christians. You see, many Muslims simply haven’t heard the truth, and programs such as Kids World, English classes, and food and clothing distribution provide a great opportunity to witness by sharing God’s love in practical ways. These types of programs that POBLO is involved in help people to experience the compassion and love of Jesus through Christians who are living out the Biblical message. Please pray for these Muslim children and their families, that they will continue to open their hearts and minds to the Gospel that is shared with them through the various programs we offer.
