Even though they have lived here for six years, they have difficultly speaking English. As a result, they feel very isolated from the American community, so I invited them to a potluck at our church. They were happy to receive the invitation and were excited to come. It was their first time visiting an evangelical church. They helped us to set up and clean up after the potluck, which gave us more time to visit and get to know
them. Before they left the church, they asked if they could see the main sanctuary, so I had the pastor give us a tour. While we were walking around, they asked a lot of questions about the saints and the Virgin Mary, particularly how we view them. I explained to them that as Evangelical Christians, we respect and honor the Virgin Mary, but the Bible is clear that there is only one way to heaven: through Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and through Him, we have access to God the Father.
They were very interested in the conversation and seemed open to what I told them. We are hoping for more opportuni- ties to share our faith with them in the near future. Please pray that God will open their eyes to understand the truth, and that the truth will set them free.
